Istanbul is divided by the Golden Horn into the Old and New City.
The Old City is the historic centre and mecca for shoppers; its monuments, mosques and bazaars bustling by day. Come nightfall, the streets fall relatively quiet while its restaurants are mainly patronised by visitors. Stroll down to the seafood restaurants at Kumkapi for a memorable dinner.
The New City by contrast is the commercial centre and therefore caters to Istanbul’s white collar workforce. The evenings here offer a wonderful experience around the areas of Tunel, Beyoglu and the Flower Market. Watch the world pass by over a raki or wonderful Turkish meal at one of the atmospheric outdoor bars or restaurants that line the narrow backstreets.
